LASER & LIGHT THERAPY

At Lincoln Road Dermatology, we have a variety of lasers and light devices to treat a diverse population of patient concerns. Some of our devices include laser hair removal, intense pulse light (IPL) for fading of brown and red (vascular) spots, ablative laser for skin rejuvenation and tightening, scar reduction and light therapy for precancer/sun damage known as photodynamic treatments (PDT). Each laser uses a different wavelength of light specifically designed to target skin conditions. Lasers may require a few sessions spaced over time for best results. The doctor will discuss both laser and nonlaser treatment options and timing during your consultation.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL

De-fuzzing the best way we know with the LightSheer Duet; this award-winning laser is rated as one of the best on the market for all skin types. Using a suction technology, large areas of hair are quickly and less painfully removed through a series of treatments.

If hair reduction is your goal, come in for a consultation and get started on reducing unwanted hair. Best results are obtained with regularly scheduled sessions. Refrain from sun and self tanners, or anything causing a notable difference between skin color and hair pigment. Hairs must be dark and should be shaved - not plucked.

Common laser hair removal questions and answers:

What options are out there for laser hair removal?

There are a couple options, both of which rely on heated lights: laser beam or intense pulsed light (IPL). Lasers are

focused beams, whereas IPL uses interspersed flashes - IPL is not a laser. While we have both, we favor our diode laser for superior results.

How many visits will I need?

While one visit will result in some hair removal, it takes form 6-12 visits spread 3 weeks to 6 weeks apart to effectively reduce as much as 70-80% of the hair. Hair grows in cycles and the hair in the growth phase responds best. Skin with more pigmentation tends to response slower than adjacent lighter ares. After each session, you will see less and less hair regrowth and fewer ingrown hairs.

Is everyone a good candidate?

Lasers work best on people with pale skin and dark hair, but these days there are even options for women with dark skin and light hair. Keep in mind dark skin may require 2-3 more sessions. We do not recommend laser hair removal for blonde, red or grey hair.

Are results guaranteed?

Never trust a company that guarantees permanent hair removal. While it's impossible to predict how quickly hairs will disappear, we will coach you on ways to ensure the most optimal results for you. Best practice includes regular follow-up, avoidance of sun, self-tanners and other pigment enhancers, and no plucking or waxing during treatment. A consultation in person is the best way to get an estimation of the time, number of treatments and cost.

How much does it cost?

It depends. Laser hair removal is not cheap. It can range from $75-$1,000 per session depending on area. Discounts are available for pre-purchased packages. Most patients find themselves returning 2-3 times a year for touch-ups. Remember, no place can guarantee 100% permanent results.

PRECANCEROUS LIGHT TREATMENT

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) involves the photoactivation of a chemical applied to the skin by an external light source. Initially approved by the FDA in 1999 for the treatment of precancerous actinic keratosis, PDT has also been used for acne as well as cosmetic improvement of sun damaged skin.

Conditions considered for treatment with PDT include:

  • precancers (actinic keratosis) of skin and lips

  • acne

  • redness, flushing, enlarged pores

  • sun damage (fine lines, mottled pigmentation)

  • thin squamous cell and basal cell carcinomas

  • skin cancer prevention in high-risk patients (e.g. organ transplant patient, particularly renal and liver transplant patients)

While PDT is one option, the physician will review all options for you and decide which is the right choice.

PDT

Patients who undergo PDT can expect:

  • a visit of 1.5-2.5 hour duration (application of medicine plus a 1-2 hour incubation period before undergoing the light therapy). Bring a book or plan an indoor coffee or lunch break at a nearby restaurant.

  • mild tenderness upon the first 4-5 minutes of light activation

  • photosensitivity for 48 hours after treatment

  • redness or sunburn-like reaction for up to 7 days on average.

HYPERPIGMENTATION &

REDNESS REDUCTION

Say goodbye to pesky broken capillaries and aging brown spots. Freckles gently exfoliate away with a procedure sometimes termed "photofacial" or" IPL (Intense Pulse Light).

By selecting the appropriate wavelength or filter, the physician will be able to treat a broad range of skin conditions caused by skin aging and sun exposure. The light energy delivered by the IPL gently heats the desired target within the skin. Through the skins natural reparative process reduction of undesired, superficial blood vessels and pigmented lesions such as freckles and sun spots are removed over a recommended series of sessions.

SKIN REJUVENATION

Demand more from your skin. Want to regain that healthy glow? Want to improve acne scarring? Interested in erasing the signs of aging?

There are many options to help restore your skin to its fullest potential. During your consultation, we will review your concerns and formulate a plan that involves treatment, as well as, long term maintenance to encourage and sustain results. Below are just a few of the leading edge technologies we specialize in here at Lincoln Road Dermatology.

Skin Tightening

We utilize Pellevé to maximize tightening in areas such as the neck, wrinkles around the eyes and the fine

Sciton/Profrax

fine lines of the lower face and décolletage. Pellevé utilizes radiofrequency to treat wrinkles with virtually minimal pain and no downtime. In fact, patients who have had a Pellevé treatment say it feels like a warm facial massage. The result is a firmer, more youthful skin appearance with the full effect of skin firming being actualized over several subsequent months.

Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing treatments are done with the Erbium Sciton Profile Laser. The Sciton Profile and Joule lasers are the most advanced laser skin resurfacing systems available today. This amazing laser resurfacing technology allows us to dramatically rejuvenate your skin with fewer risks and less down time than the older CO2 laser resurfacing technology.

Micro Laser Peeland ProFractional

  • Wrinkle treatment - effective around eyes, mouth and overall facial skin

  • Benign brown spots - sun and age related pigmentation

  • Acne scarring - often requires a combination approach to correct rolling, boxcar

       and ice pick scarring

Microneedling

Acne scars, deep wrinkles, aging, sun damage, pigmentation and more can be treated with

microneedling. Microneedling is a non-surgical procedure that uses tiny needles to puncture

the skin's top layer. The microinjuries then stimulate your body's natural healing response, resulting

in cell turnover and an increase in collagen and elastin production. Microneedling also proves beneficial to improving product absorption such as hyaluronic acid, retinols and other topical serums.

Scar Reduction

Burns, injury or trauma can cause the skin to leave a scar. Depending on the area and cause, a scars presence can be greatly reduced using a variety of techniques such as laser, injections and microneedling. In addition to improving the appearance of a scar, the physician will be able to enhance decreased range of motion caused by scarring, as well as minimize pain and itch.

A common cause of facial scarring is severe adolescent or adult acne. Although these types of scar can persist for a long period of time, they can often be reduced through a combination of treatments.

A series of sessions throughout a period of time is recommended for best results. Although a scar will never completely go away, reduced size or change in appearance may occur.
