DERMATOLOGIC
SURGERY
Early diagnosis is the most effective treatment for skin cancer. After evaluating the biopsy results, we develop an individualized treatment plan based on the cancer type, size, location, and your overall health. Treatment may include surgical excision, electrodesiccation and curettage, cryosurgery, topical therapies, or referral for Mohs surgery when indicated.
A Thoughtful, Evidence-Based Approach
Many skin lesions can be diagnosed during a careful clinical examination using dermoscopy, a specialized technique that allows visualization of structures beneath the skin's surface.
When additional information is needed, a biopsy provides a definitive diagnosis before planning surgery. This approach allows treatment to be based on pathology rather than assumptions, helping ensure that the right procedure is performed at the right time while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.

Your Comfort Comes First
Whether you need treatment for skin cancer, removal of a cyst or lipoma, or cosmetic removal of a mole, skin tag, or other benign growth, Dr. Marcy Alvarez performs a wide range of dermatologic surgical procedures in the comfort of our office.
Most procedures are performed under local anesthesia. For patients with anxiety or needle phobia, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is also available to help you feel more relaxed throughout your procedure.
Every Surgical Procedure Begins with an Evaluation
Every surgical concern requires an initial consultation before surgery is scheduled. During this visit, Dr. Alvarez performs a careful examination, often using dermoscopy to evaluate the lesion in greater detail. When appropriate, a biopsy may be recommended to establish a definitive diagnosis before planning a larger excision or other definitive treatment.
This thoughtful approach helps ensure that the right procedure is performed at the right time while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.
